Text messages from Odd Question

Program name: Odd Question account verification.

Odd Question sends one-time verification codes by SMS when a member signs up or logs in with a phone number. That is the only kind of text we send: no marketing texts, no reminders by text, and nobody is ever texted on another member's behalf. A code goes only to a number the person has just typed in themselves.

How a member opts in

1. On the Create your account screen (or the Log in screen, via Text me a code instead), the member types their phone number into the field labelled Phone number.
2. Directly under that field, before any tap, the screen says: We'll text you a one-time code to verify your number. Message and data rates may apply. One message per request; reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. See oddquestion.app/sms.
3. Tapping Text me a code → (or Send code →) is the opt-in. Nothing is sent before the tap.
4. The next screen says Enter the code; the member types the six digits to finish.

Anyone who prefers not to receive a text can choose Use email instead on the same screen and never gives a phone number.

What the messages say

That is the entire message. It carries no link.

Message frequency

One message per verification request. A member can request at most three codes to any one number in a day, and Odd Question caps the total number of codes it sends in a day.

How to opt out, and how to get help

• Reply STOP to any message and no further texts are sent to that number. Reply: Odd Question: you're unsubscribed. No more texts will be sent to this number. Reply START to opt back in. After stopping, log in with your email address and password instead of a text code; nothing else about your account changes.
• Reply HELP for assistance. Reply: Odd Question: we only text one-time sign-in codes you request in the app. Help: hello@oddquestion.app. Reply STOP to opt out. You can also email hello@oddquestion.app or call (202) 688-5119.
• Reply START to opt back in. Reply: Odd Question: you're opted back in. You'll receive a code only when you request one in the app.
